Funeral of journalist Marwan Fathi Harzallah following the return of his body

On October 8, 2026, the body of Palestinian journalist and detainee Marwan Fathi Harzallah, his family's farewell in Nablus, and the arrangements for his burial. Marwan Fathi Hussein Harzallah (مروان فتحي حسين حرز الله) was a 54-year-old Palestinian media worker employed by Palestine TV, the Palestinian Authority's television broadcaster. He lived in the al-Ein refugee camp in Nablus, in the occupied West Bank. He died in Israeli custody on 28 March 2026, after two months of administrative detention, and his body was retained by the IPS until Otober 8, 2026, eight months later. On January 8, 2026, Israeli forces arrested Harzallah at his home in Zawata, near Nablus. Israeli authorities reportedly detained him on allegations of “incitement”; Palestinian sources say he was held in administrative detention, without a trial or sentence. He had been shot by Israeli forces in 1995, reportedly during a protest, and had one foot amputated as a result. His family said he had no underlying health conditions before his arrest apart from complications related to that old injury. On March 28, 2026, the IDF announced his death at Megiddo Prison in Israel. Palestinian prisoner organisations attributed his death to medical neglect and the denial of adequate healthcare. The circumstances require independent investigation; the Israeli Prison Service did not provide a case-specific explanation to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ). On October 8, Israeli authorities returned Harzallah's body after withholding it. His relatives were seen bidding farewell to him at Rafidia Hospital in Nablus after the body was returned.

Around 5 pm, an Israeli airstrike targeted a car transporting large quantities of canned corn on Al-Sinaa Street in Gaza City, killing two men, including a Palestinian freed from Israeli detention. One of the martyrs, Majdi Al-Ayoubi, was previously abducted and held in Israeli detention. During Israel's 2024 invasion and destruction of the Zaytoun neighborhood of Gaza City, Majdi and his pregnant wife and mother were besieged at home. Majdi was abducted to Israeli prisons including Ofer and the infamous Sde Teiman torture camp. During his detention at Ofer prison, around a month before he was freed, an Israeli intelligence officer told him that they had killed his expectant wife and mother. Night bombing of Al-Najjar family houses

Around 8:10 pm, Israel issued forced displacement orders for displaced Palestinians in the center of Khan Younis ahead of bombing a house. According to survivors, displaced people sheletring in the buildings had to evacuate hastily without taking any belongings. The bombing ended up destroyed several houses belonging to the Al-Najjar family. No human casualties were reported.

Artillery shelling of Zo'rob family house in Rafah

Around 8:30 am, Israeli forces opened fire toward Mawasi Rafah. The assault lasted a few hours and was accompanied by artillery shelling starting around 9:15 am and struck the Zo'rob family house in Al-Shakoush area northwest of Rafah. AT leat 7 people were injured in the onslaught.

Around 9:35 pm, a violent Israeli airstrike targeted the house of Al-Sawafiri family in the vicinity of Abdullah Azzam mosque in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City. The bombing started barely 10 minutes after issuing orders to displaced civlians sheltering nearby to evacuate. At least two people were killed inlcuding a child. Journalist Ahmed Kaheel was also injured while covering the events. At around 10:55 pm, a third Israeli airstrike hit the area A child who survived the massacre confirmed the timing and number of airstrikes. The child is the nephew of the woman who was killed.
