Event Notes

Settlers besieging a family house in Wadi al-Rakhim

Since October 7, 2026 in Wadi al-Rakhim, Masafer Yatta, near as-Samuʿ, in the southern West Bank, settlers besieged the Shanaran family home, attackd the family, blockd the only access road, and reportedly attempt to set fire to the house; Israeli forces arrived but do not remove the settlers.

The house of Yousef Shanaran (يوسف شناران) is located in Wadi Rahim/Wadi al-Rakhim, in Area B near as-Samuʿ, in the southern Hebron Hills.

Timeline of the event:

On the evening of 5 October, dozens of settlers attacked his home, throwing stones at the house. According to Shanaran, they tried to set fire to the garage door and break into the house. The settlers subsequently erected a tent immediately outside/near the house, blocking the only road in and out, effectively trapping the family. The family included Yousef, his wife and four younger children aged 8–13; other reports say seven children remained inside the house. An Israeli military force arrived but did not remove the settlers or lift the siege.

An outpost had reportedly been established roughly 800 metres from the house, demolished and rebuilt several times. Shortly before the attack, an extension was established much closer to the family home.

On October 6, settlers attacked a Palestinian dwelling in Wadi al-Rakhim with stones, causing material damage.

On October 7, dozens of settlers surrounded the house and assaulted Yousef and his wife, injuring both. Israeli soldiers subsequently arrived but did not lift the siege; ambulances were reportedly unable to reach the injured couple. Settlers were remaining around the house and even playing football alongside Israeli soldiers. The outpost erected at the site had been dismantled by the army overnight but was subsequently rebuilt nearby.
