Al‑Bireh (also spelled Al‑Birah or El‑Bira) is a Palestinian city in the central West Bank, located about 15 km (9 mi) north of Jerusalem and adjacent to Ramallah. It sits on the central ridge of the West Bank at roughly 860 m above sea level and serves as the capital of the Ramallah and al‑Bireh Governorate under Palestinian Authority administration.
