"“Farewell, my son!” cries the mother of Mohammed Hanani as she bids him goodbye, hours after he was shot in the head with live ammunition in Beit Furik, east of Nablus. The 17-year-old high school student was injured on the evening of Saturday, 21 February 2026, after a group of illegal colonial settlers attacked the “Al-Dubbat” neighbourhood, triggering clashes with residents. Israeli occupation forces later stormed the town, in what sources say was to protect the illegal colonial settlers or conduct illegitimate searches, and live fire was used during the raid. Mohammed was critically wounded and transferred to Rafidia Hospital in Nablus, where he was pronounced dead at dawn on Sunday, 22 February. A 16-year-old boy was also shot in the foot during the same events. According to the Palestinian health ministry and local sources, Mohammed was a Tawjihi student at Beit Furik Secondary School for Boys; his uncle described him as athletic, fond of horses, and deeply religious. His funeral was held on Sunday in Beit Furik and Nablus, drawing large crowds of relatives, classmates and friends, as videos circulated of his mother’s farewell and the moment he was shot and detained before being taken to hospital. His killing comes amid ongoing violence by Israeli colonial settlers in the occupied West Bank, where more than 1,100 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023, according to Palestinian figures, alongside near-daily raids and settler attacks. @palpostn" - Source
